Ingredients:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup powdered sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup sour cream
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 350F 175C and line baking sheets with parchment paper
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and powdered sugar until light and fluffy
Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk and sour cream, until a soft dough forms
Cover the dough and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes
Once chilled, scoop out portions of dough about 1/4 cup each and roll into balls
Place the dough balls on the prepared baking sheets, leaving enough space between each cookie
Using the bottom of a glass dipped in granulated sugar, gently flatten each dough ball to about 1/2 inch thickness
Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are set but the centers are still slightly soft
Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely
