- , Granny Smith
- Oil for frying vegetable or canola
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2-3 tbsp Irish whiskey
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1-2 tbsp milk as needed for glaze consistency
Instructions:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt
Add the cold cubed butter to the dry ingredients and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix it until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs
In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, and vanilla extract
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and stir until just combined
Fold in the diced apples until evenly distributed in the dough
Heat oil in a deep fryer or a large, deep saucepan to 350F 175C
Using a spoon or cookie scoop, carefully drop spoonfuls of the dough into the hot oil
Fry for about 2-3 minutes per side or until the donuts are golden brown and cooked through
Remove the donuts from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil
In a separate bowl, make the whiskey glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, Irish whiskey, vanilla extract, and milk until you reach your desired glaze consistency
Dip each donut into the whiskey glaze, allowing any excess glaze to drip off, and place them on a wire rack to set
Let the glaze set for about 10 minutes before serving
