Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp hot water
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 350F 175C
Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan
In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt
In a separate large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy
Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition
Stir in the vanilla extract
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with buttermilk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients
Mix until just combined
Divide the batter into two equal portions
In one portion, mix in cocoa powder and hot water to create a chocolate batter
In the center of the prepared cake pan, spoon a large dollop of the vanilla batter
Then, spoon a dollop of the chocolate batter directly on top of the vanilla batter
Continue alternating between vanilla and chocolate batters until the pan is filled
Use a skewer or knife to create a marbled pattern by gently swirling the batters together
Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean
Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely
Slice and serve your delicious zebra butter cake
